We planted our tiny tomato plants on June 1st, according to the blog post where I reveal both my lack of a green thumb and my children as uncooperative gardening companions.
Yesterday, Eloise found this on a routine inspection of the garden:
Our first cherry tomatoes! Oh, the celebration!
Let’s not dwell on the two ripe tomatoes that were ripped off the plant, nibbled on by some rotten critter (this time not one of my children), and then wastefully abandoned on the ground.
Do the critters not understand the love we have poured into this small garden plot??

Ooooh I can only imagine the sweetness!
The pictures are beautiful. I could never plant anything even if my life depends on it LOL

The Mother, too bad we only had two! Remember I mentioned my lack of a green thumb?? Yup – it’s the end of July and our garden has only produced two cherry tomatoes… for a cost of $37 each.
Nothing tastes better than fresh cherry tomatoes off the plant – except maybe fresh peas out of the pod.

oh, yes…the only problem is, how awful the cherry tomatoes taste in the winter from the market from here on in.
ruins it for me forever…

Oh how exciting for your children to see the first tomatoes off the plants they helped create.
Yay for garden tomatoes! They taste just like summer!

Nice work! My kids absolutely LOVE both grape and cherry tomatoes. They’ll eat them by the handful if I let them. Your garden is fabulous; I wish we had enough sun to have one at our house.
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I wanted to tell you that the only replacement I can think of for challah might possibly be Hawaiian bread. Of course you can always make your own homemade challah as well. It’s really just an egg bread; hence why it makes such a tasty french toast.
I regret not planting tomatoes this year. I didn’t bother because I’m the only one that eats them – but homegrown fresh tomatoes do taste so much better than store bought.

Everytime I hear about fresh grown cherry tomoatoes I chuckle inside when I think about the tomatoes I thought were the best in the world.
(my dad had pity on me looking every day for tomatoes-read this- http://www.newdaynewlesson.com/?p=3143 )
I am so jealous of veggie gardens-think I need to move and grow one.

Hooray for cherry tomatoes! We just made fajitas with the two little bell peppers from our garden. Somehow, they just taste more delicious when your own sweat went into growing them.

Stacia, that is so cool! I bet the kids actually ate the fajitas, too, since they helped grow the peppers!
How exciting! We’ve been planting them too, and we gave our son responsibility for watering them. They’ve all died…

Oh no, Cecilia! That’s a shame. Some of our plants have shriveled down to nothing from a lack of water. No peppers this year.
That stinks when that happens. At least they left you some!
