After our recent trip to the Hirshhorn Museum, my daughters were itching to paint something. They were hoping for a canvas, like the real paintings, but they had to settle for watercolors and paper.
Mr.Mayhem: Isn’t that paper a little small?
Me: What do you mean?
Mr.Mayhem: How are they going to be able to roll their paint-covered bodies on paper that small?
Me: Right. <sarcastic> Dude, that’s totally inappropriate.
No, the children were not that inspired by the Yves Klein exhibit. We will not be recreating his painting techniques. We will stick to plain, unimaginative paintbrushes, thank you very much.
They did enjoy an impromptu lesson in mixing colors. And they were very impressed with the magic of using red, yellow, blue, and white paint to create any color.
Somehow, though, both of their palettes ended up brown. Amazing how that happens, isn’t it??

Odd how the palette always ends up brown:) My kids are the same way. But I would not trade anything for the art the kids create, even if it is a brown butterfly that is supposed to be a dog!
You were in front of me at The Blog Frog today:) Glad to see more of you!

A couple of years ago, I was inspired to be an artist. I went out bought acrylics and canvas and brushes. After trying to mix my paints more than a few times I gave up because they always ended up looking like sludge. It made me realize that being a good artist involves knowing about colour and it is beyond me. I admire it now.

can I just tell you how wonderful it looks to sit on a covered porch? We live in a condo downtown which I enjoy most of the time…but every now and then, I miss that kinda outdoorsy space!

What a lovely view you have from your wonderful covered porch. I had to laugh because every time my daughter does finger painting with multiple colors it always, but always ends up being all brown
And to do that kind of painting outside? Talk about inspiration.
Those are beautiful photos. Wow. You are awesome for encouraging your daughters in their creativity! I am not artist so I hope my kids will learn from my mistakes. ; )

Finger painting is all kinds of fun. However, we definitely need smocks like your beautiful girls have. And that kitty cat sunning himself on the porch? I just want to scratch his precious ears!!
